How
to pick your downrod length

- For
cooling, it is most efficient to have the blades 8
to 9 feet above the floor.
- For
ceilings higher than 8 feet, the position of the ceiling fan is very important.
-
For example, a 14 foot ceiling would need a 5 foot extension
downrod to position the blades at 8 feet, since you need to allow one foot
from the motor top to the bottom of the switch housing.
-
Conversely for heat reclamation, it is most important to
have the motor mounted within 1 to 2 feet from the ceiling for
most efficient operation.
- Generally,
you will use your fan most often for cooling rather than heat reclamation,
so it is recommended to use an extension downrod that lowers
your fan to 8 - 9 feet from the floor.
-
In those instances where heat reclamation is the only use,
you would mount your fan with the standard mounting kit included
with the fan.
- All Hunter Fans ® use 3/4'' diameter extension downrods for maximum
stability and wobble-free performance. Most other
fans specify 1/2'' diameter downrods.
